In the Western side of the globe with the power of industry, manufacturing and a free market, capitalist society the United States was growing at the fastest rate in modern times. Regan upon his inauguration started to make a change in policy that have been left over from previous administration of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. Reagan did not believe this tactic worked in the past or was even possible of working the future. â€Å"Well, so far dà ©tente’s been a one-way street that the Soviet Union has used to pursue its own aims. I don’t have to think of an answer to what I think their intentions are; they have repeated it. I know of no leader of the Soviet Union since the revolution, and including the present leadership, that has not more than once repeated in the various Communist congress they hold their determination that their goal must be the promotion of the world revolution and a one-world Socialist or Communist state, whichever work you want to use. (Reagan, 1981) This believe and stance that the S oviet Union will not negotiate has led him to follow one path. A path that leads to the defeat of the Soviet Union.
